About EdKind

Welcome to EdKind, a small, family-run Montessori store born from a passion to support families embracing the Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf methodologies of learning. As a home-educating family with five children, we understand that every child is unique, learning at their own pace, with distinct aptitudes, interests, and styles. Our mission is to foster a spirit of active learning through carefully curated resources, invitations to play, and opportunities for families to grow together. At EdKind, we believe one size cannot fit all, but one space can serve all—through thoughtfully selected materials that inspire independence, creativity, and connection.

Our Story

EdKind was founded by our family, driven by our experiences nurturing five unique learners. We’ve seen firsthand how the right resources can spark curiosity, encourage self-directed exploration, and create meaningful learning moments—both independently and with adult guidance. Our journey in home education has taught us the value of tailoring learning to each child’s needs, and we’ve carefully chosen resources that have supported our children’s growth across the Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf approaches. Now, we’re excited to share these tools with you, while continuing to learn and connect with other families through the universal language of play and discovery.

Our Philosophy: Inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf

At EdKind, we draw inspiration from three child-centered educational philosophies, each offering unique strengths to nurture holistic development. Here’s a closer look at these methodologies and how they shape our offerings:

  • Montessori Education: Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, this approach emphasizes self-directed learning, hands-on exploration, and mixed-age collaboration. With specially designed materials, children develop independence, practical life skills, and a love for learning at their own pace. Research, such as a 2006 study from Montessori Northwest, shows Montessori fosters strong social and academic outcomes, making it a cornerstone of our resource selection.
  • Reggio Emilia Approach: Originating in Italy, Reggio Emilia views children as capable researchers with “hundred languages” of expression—through art, drama, and dialogue. The environment acts as a “third teacher,” with spaces designed to inspire creativity and project-based learning driven by children’s interests. Our atelier-inspired materials and open-ended resources reflect this philosophy, encouraging families to explore and document their learning journeys together.
  • Waldorf (Steiner) Education: Founded by Rudolf Steiner, Waldorf emphasizes holistic development—physical, emotional, social, and intellectual—through arts, music, and imaginative play. With a low-tech focus and delayed formal academics, it nurtures creativity and lifelong learning. Our Waldorf-inspired resources, such as natural materials and storytelling tools, support sensory-rich, imaginative experiences.

These methodologies share a commitment to child-centered, experiential learning, prioritizing creativity, independence, and holistic growth. At EdKind, we blend their strengths to offer resources that cater to diverse learning styles, whether your child thrives in structured Montessori activities, Reggio’s emergent projects, or Waldorf’s artistic exploration.

Why EdKind?

Our store is more than a collection of educational tools—it’s a space for connection and growth. Every product we offer has been tested in our own home, ensuring it supports independent learning, family collaboration, and abstract thinking. From sensory bins and practical life materials to art supplies and nature-inspired play kits, our resources are designed to:

  • Spark Active Learning: Invitations to play that ignite curiosity and encourage children to explore at their own pace.
  • Foster Family Learning: Tools that bring parents and children together, creating shared moments of discovery.
  • Celebrate Individuality: Resources that adapt to each child’s unique needs, interests, and developmental stage.
